Match Report vs Glenwood
9th July 2026 @ Bryn-y-Don, Dinas (Skipper Steveo,
report Benedict)
On a hot July evening which had Mark reminiscing about the
summer of ‘76, it was time for a T20 clash between Casuals
and Glenwood Church. Steve became very unpopular for losing
a toss which meant that we had to go and field in the heat!
To make matters worse, Glenwood’s two opening batters
settled in very quickly and seemed unperturbed by the heat
in their willingness to take quick singles at any opportunity!
It was looking ominous for casuals as quick singles turned
into plentiful boundaries, until Mark took a much-needed wicket
with a great caught-and-bowled effort.
The second wicket came in the 15th over with Glenwood on
117. This time it was the other opening batter out bowled
by Greg for 44. I do feel the need to clear something up here.
There was some criticism of the batter from the Cazh (not
directed at him of course) for asking how many he was on before
being bowled next ball. In his defence, I did actually hear
one of our team ask him what he was on first, so maybe that
was an elaborate (and successful!) plan to jinx him!
Glenwood’s no.3 continued the good work of the opening
batters and retired on 52, but things got easier for the Cazh
after that with no other batters scoring significant runs.
A total of 174-4 looked daunting, and Steve placed faith
in a strong top order lineup to get a large chunk of the runs
we needed. Unfortunately this didn’t quite go to plan,
with the opening pair of Jim and Jack both bowled, for 1 and
5 respectively. In came Will to steady the ship, which he
did very sensibly, starting with a run of 5 singles before
upping the pace with a number of 4’s and even 2 3’s
- impressive work in this heat!
Will and Greg formed a great partnership of 58 runs before
Greg was caught , marking the end of a speedy innings of 25
off 20 balls. The Cazh continued to battle well, with Rob
and Iwan both making double figures, but the total of 174
always looked just out of reach. Will retired on a fantastic
52, then myself and Steve came in for a final swing which
left us on 152-7 off our 20 overs. [Ed - it was actually 19.5
overs complete, and as next man in Dan stood up to go to the
middle, he found the Skipper shaking hands with the oppo and
effectively declaring...with a loss obviously...though 2 more
runs would have yielded an extra bonus point..will it come
to bite...]
With only 22 runs separating the teams, it was a relatively
close game played in good spirits and an enjoyable evening
was had by all.
