AGM 2025

CARDIFF CASUALS CRICKET CLUB (Founded 1993) – 33rd AGM
Date - Friday 21st November 2025
Venue – Cardiff Athletic Club

Apologies: Mark Stephens, Rich Holliday, Dave Thomas, Liam Forster, John Prior, Rhys Davies.
Present:Rob Owens, Dan Lewis, James Hodkinson, Steve O’Reilly, Goff Day, Ed Stewart, Patrick Dean, Jack Beaumont, Matt Cullen, Sanay Goyal, Dave White, Will Mason-Wilkes.

1. REVIEW OF MINUTES OF LAST AGM (32nd) – viewable on the website forum.

2. INDOOR CAPTAINS REPORT: W. Mason-Wilkes.
Winter 2025 / Spring 2026 – resumes December 3rd with Rhys Davies and another running it. Will MW takes over the reigns from Steveo who stood up and volunteered to run the Casuals teams last year.

3. CAPTAIN'S REPORT - J. Hodkinson: See Appendix 1.

4. SECRETARY’S / WEBMASTER’S REPORT: See Appendix 2.
SECRETARY:
- Website ranks in the top 5 for “Cricket clubs Cardiff” on Google but not on Bing due to Copilot. Plan to explore this. Main source of new players remains the website.
- Regular updates to the gallery, with additional activity on Facebook and X (Twitter) by Jack and others. Rhys/Jack added more video clips and gifs, including notable moments like Liam’s run out and Steveo’s umpire commentary.
- Casuals club admin went smoothly, but delays in submitting match reports are an ongoing issue. Reports need to be submitted within 1-2 weeks of games.
- Chairman and Captain to be match report ‘enforcers’.

Future of Web Admin:
- Last year, a working group was formed to address the future of the website, but no progress has been made. Options for 2026 include:
- Play-cricket, new website with database backend, or self-developed site.
- Possible redesign or commission of a company for a new site.
- Willow website also considered.
- Goffy is beginning to accumulate funds for potential changes.
- Dan will continue to be Webmaster for 2 more years.

Willow League Admin:
- Significant time spent weekly managing results, fixture changes, complaints, and general inquiries.
- Efforts made to push more responsibility onto the Willow committee, particularly for fixture-related tasks.
- Explore the options of Play Cricket for results.

5. WILLOW LEAGUE REPORT: See Appendix 2.
- Pitch availability issues continue but were eventually found. Alternative venues: Astros, Heath, The Marl, Pontymister.
- Cup Final - BOTs took over liaising between finalists to determine venues (which was welcome, though there was some confusion with split final venues (final at St Fagans, bowl at Llandaff).
- The proposed merger of NOW and Medics was not pursued.
- Full list of rule changes agreed at the AGM is available on the forum.
- Chartered Trust won both the league and cup, remaining unbeaten through the season.
- Ferrets won the bowl, defeating Eclipse.

6. TREASURER’S REPORT/ ACCOUNTS FOR APPROVAL: G. Day.
- Club remains very healthy
- Cash in Bank still extremely healthy
- Debtors virtually eradicated
- Club value increased again for 5th year in succession (up 9.1%)
- Membership down 5% (1.5 people)
- Subs down 3% (although 8% increase in participations! Foxy’s fault)
- Pitch / Court costs too low as no bill received for Nets (c£300)
- Equipment costs high but driven by grant support
- ‘TRUE’ position very different …….
- Banking fees no more next year!!!! (£60 saving)
- Vale of Glamorgan still hold £100 annual deposit
- Match Fees - Indoor (£3), Nets (£3 - £0 for 2026) and Outdoor (£4)
- Keep Annual membership at £25
- Keep Insurance set up unchanged (£117.20 including £10m PLI)
- Keep IT set up unchanged (as long as DL in agreement) – see note 11

- BDS agreed to £600 of Kit funding again for 2026
- Apply for another £2000 from Sport Wales for IT? Yes.

7. FIXTURE SECRETARY REPORT/ STATS: D. Lewis.
Kevin did a great job of taking over from Mark in 2025, taking notes from Mark and documenting them – on guidance for future Fixture Secretaries…which will be very soon as Kevin is moving away and is standing down from being Fixtures Secretary for 2026. He has already arranged a number of Sunday fixtures (following the same template as previous years) – so we will be looking for a volunteer.

8. ELECTION OF OFFICERS:
- Captain – Steve O’Reilly.
- Vice Captain – Jack Beaumont & Dan Lewis.
- Chairmen – Rob Owens.
- Secretary – Dan Lewis.
- Fixture Secretary – James Hodkinson.
- Assistant Fixture Secretary - Sanay Goyal & Rob Owens.
- Treasurer – Goff Day.
- Webmaster – Dan Lewis.
- Social Media Secretary – Matt Cullen.
- Members Member / Player Liaison – Sanay Goyal.
- Indoor Captain – Will Mason-Wilkes.
- Club Statistician - Mark Stephens

- President - John Prior

9. POLICIES FOR NEXT SEASON: No charge for nets as a trial to encourage new members along. Recruitment was also raised. Members encouraged to invite friends along to nets, socials, games etc.

10. SUBSCRIPTIONS AND CHARGES: No change, except nets (above).

11. CHAMPAGNE MOMENT: Foxy's last innings / guard of honour.

12. THE TUDOR THOMAS CUP FOR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO THE TOUR: Rhys’s caught and bowled to win the Sunday tour match.

13. FOXY AWARD: Ed Stagg - summary in Appendix 1. We need a definition from Foxy. Was awarded by JH as a ‘spirit of cricket’ award.

14. PRESIDENTS / VP: Foxy named as President. Andy Hood as Honourary VP.

15. AOB:
- BRYN-Y-DON: No major traffic issues, but games often started late caused by both teams’ tardiness.
- CLUB STATISTICIAN: Committee role. Shakes accepted the position. Agreed by Committee post-AGM.
- CHRISTMAS MEAL. April - vote on WhatsApp for 4 dates.
- NETS - Nets booked – 2x lanes Tues Feb 17th @ 8pm.
- TOUR - Need to arrange tour earlier in 2026 – although we had venue and hotel booked for 2025 – fixture arranging was left to last minute, came off, but nearly didn’t. September 4th - 6th. Location TBC.
- FOXY TESTIMONIAL - Noted success. Thanks to all that helped organised, and good to see familiar faces.

Due to increased numbers of 'youth' players showing an interest in becoming a 'Casual' - the committee have asked for advice from the WCA - the result of which is that under 18s are not able to play for the Casuals due to the responsibility of duty of care.[youth policy]
