Match Report vs Tour
Game 2 - The Lenches 7th Septmeber 2025 @ Lenches (Skipper
Dan, Report Liam F)
Fearing the worst driving down the M5 towards Evesham(ish)
we arrived to light rain and cloudy surroundings. Thankfully
the rain stopped and the clouds parted in the distance revealing
the loverly backdrop of the Malverns. The covers were off
and both teams keen for a game it was time for the Boat Race
to decide the toss. (For those who don’t know: A drinking
boat race is a team-based relay drinking game where each player
drinks their beverage in sequence, finishing their drink and
placing the empty cup upside down on their head before the
next person can start. The first team to have all players
finish their drinks and place their cups on their heads wins.)
According to google the game requires coordination and speed,
after a few long days of tour we lacked this. Dan was up first
and it was soon evident who was going to win by the time I
was downing my pint of lukewarm Carling the oppo was on there
4th pint. Lenches won the toss with 3 pints spare, they chose
to field.
Opening the batting for the 10 men of the Casuals was Goff
and Rhys as decided from the previous nights game of Spoof.
It was soon becoming clear this might be a game of firsts
with Lenches having a Flying V formation in the slips with
the 6 of them in there not including the leg slip while Bowling
round the wicket to Goff. Both Goff and Rhys started fast
hitting the balls into the open outfield. Going well the casuals
first wicket fell 72-1 with Goff bowled for 27 with four 4s
and one 6. In next was Jack, sadly not for long falling for
3 off 8 and the Casuals 89-2. Up next was Jim who along slide
Rhys increased the runs quickly. The Fielding antics also
increased with the ‘PM’ losing various items of
clothing and some new fielding positions such as Silly-Mid-Dog
& Silly-Mid-Human-Centipede.
Rhys was who was still in there and going well got to his
50 but not long after eventually fell for 51 hitting eight
4s in his 51 off 42 balls. In next was Tour virgin Sanay sporting
the finest Primarni Minnie Mouse T-shirt and colourful trousers.
Lenches decided to bring in the pace and Jim was going well
before getting smashed on the forearm after their guy opened
with a bouncer. With a quick fire 23 Jim was bowled by the
pace including two 4s and two 6s with the casuals 125-4.
In next was Liam with both him and Sanay facing the duck
chip, both were taking their time against the pace. Just like
his T-shirt Sanay timid as a mouse took 15 balls to get off
the mark and not running at the end of the over because he
didn’t want to face the fast left armer. Lenches after
agreeing with today's Tour Captain Dan so he could bowl the
very next over at the other end ready to face Sanay again.
Sanay held his own and managed to get through the over. After
2 fours and a lot of dots mostly against the bowling of the
‘PM’ which was hard to concentrate against, Liam
was out next for 14 being trapped for a LBW. In next was SteveO
with the Casuals 157-5. The Driver and passenger combination
of Sanay and SteveO was going slow and steady before Sanay
bowled out falling for 17 with the Casuals 173-6.
Rob was next in but not for long as he was bowled for 2.
Dan was in next to partner up with SteveO but with only another
5 runs on the board SteveO was caught for 12 with the score
192-8. Pat was in next at Number 10 who looked composed and
determined with the duck chip still in play. With the overs
running out determined to pile on the runs towards the end
Dan started to tee off with the casuals passing 200 runs.
Pat fell for 2 caught in the outfield with the causals 219-9.
Back into the attack was Rob being the lowest scorer and sadly
didn’t make anymore runs getting bowled for 0. Casuals
finished all out for 224 of 39.5 overs.

Fuelled by Meal Deal teas it was time to head out and defend
our total. Following the previous nights Spoof the opening
bowlers was Jim and Jack. With the Lenches coming into bat
we learned they all had their own challenge and had a draw
to determine their first shot such as Switch-hit/Come down
the track/Bat cack-handed. There openers started strong against
the usual Wicketkeeping duo but Jack found the early breakthrough
and got one of there openers for just 8 Runs. Jim on the other
hand was getting hit around the park and the opposition seemed
to enjoy it playing circus music after 3 consecutive boundaries.
With Jim finishing his spell it was time for Sanay to join
the bowling attack alongside Jack. Lenches were enjoying this
spell with both opening and number 3 scoring runs and at speed.
This brought in the next change of bowling with Skipper Dan.
Eventually the casuals found the breakthrough with Dan bowling
out number 3 batsman for 42 runs. After the breakthrough they
started scoring runs at pace again. Sanay picked up his first
tour wicket with Dan catching it. There opening batter scored
his 50 and retired which was a bit of a relief for us as the
game was starting to look in there favour. Dan again broke
though and got the next two batsmen out for just 8 runs.
In came the 'PM' sporting even less clothing than before
if you can call it clothing, coming in sporting gloves, leg
pads, a box, gaffer tape and a bat he started to score the
runs. With the change of bowling to less pace brought SteveO
and Pat into the attack. First time wicketkeeping and maybe
last time as I was scared getting anywhere near to the stumps
I didn’t want to stand up to the stumps with him at
the crease. SteveO and Pat managed to get there wickets SteveO
trapping the batter for a LBW and Pat getting his wicket with
a catch in the deep from Jim. With the game in the balance
and great comeback from the casuals after the first 10 overs
Rhys came into the attack with the PM scoring well. With the
gaffer tape getting loser as the game went on Rhys managed
to get the wicket our eyes all wanted bowling him out for
45 runs. Soon after Rhys managed to get his 2nd wicket of
the game making the game very close but with there retired
Batsman and Number 11 left. With only 9 runs left for the
Lenches to get and one wicket left Rhys provided once again
with a fantastic caught and Bowled from there opener meaning
the Causals won by 9 runs 25.3 Overs. A great game and played
in great spirit to end our 2025 season.
