Match Report vs Cardiff
XI 25th August 2025 @ Forest Farm (Skipper Jim, Report
DT)
On a glorious, late summers day, the Casuals arrived at the
Diamond ground, home of Cardiff Cricket club with the promise
of double tea. So many of the Cardiff team had also turned
out for the Casuals that it was almost a Casuals A v B team.
(I shall leave it to you dear reader to decide which team
is which!). The toss was won by Cardiff, who elected to bat.
Lewis and Day opened the bowling for the Casuals. Cardiff
scored steadily and the first wicket fell (the No 1 batsman,
one of 3 Dourani' in the Cardiff team) to Day in the 10th
over with the score on 40. After 5 overs each Lewis and Day
were replaced by Thomas and White (G). George took the next
wicket (Dourani No 2) in the 16th over with the score on 72.
Hasmat replaced White after 5 overs with Thomas continuing
to bowl out his 8 overs. Hasmat took the third wicket in the
24th and another in his next over, with Thomas taking the
final Dourani in the 25th over with the score on 10. Lewis
and Day returned for their final 3 overs each getting a wickets
in their second spells, one for Day and 2 for Lewis. CArdiff
8 - 154 in the 36th over. Owens and Mason-Wilkes took the
final overs with Mason-Wilkes taking the 9th wicket in his
first over of 2. Cardiff finish on 185 from their 40 overs.
First tea was taken.
Hodkinson and Davies opened for the Casuals with Jim falling
for 5 in the 3rd over. Mason-Wilkes joined Davies in the middle
and kept the score ticking over, Mason-Wilkes was stumped
on 25 in the 18th over with the score on 76, 3 balls later
the incoming batsman Beaumond was bowled without troubling
the scorers. 76-3 . Next in was Amir who lasted only 2 balls
before being being caught by the bowler for 1. 80-4 in the
20th. Davies was going well and reached is 50 but that was
it for him 98-5 in the 22nd. Owens had replaced Amir and White
(G) replaced Davies. Owens raced to 22 before being out LBW
in the 27th with score on 127. White fell in the next over
for 9, 127-7. Hasnat and Day were now at the crease with Lewis
and a nervous Thomas all that was left in the Hutch. Day fell
in the 31st with the score on 145. Lewis joined Hasmat, who
was going well. No further wickets fell with Hamat and Lewis
ending not out on 36 and 19 respectively with a very relived
Thomas adding to his record DNB's. Casuals win with a score
of 191 in the penultimate over.
