Match Report vs Chartered
Trust 20th August 2025 @ St Fagans (Skipper Jim, Report
Dan)
The last match of the Willow league was against league leaders
(and unassailable league winners) Chartered Trust, so could
the Casuals stop them for a clean sweep of wins… in
a word no, we but we give it a good go!
Losing the toss the Cazh were fielding at St Fagans. Trust
had a few old faces playing this game (unlike the Cup games
earlier in the season – where I recognised none of them).
Dan opened and got a wicket in the first over – bowled.
DT opened from the village end and picked up a wicket in his
second also bowled. Trust’s no2 and 4 put on a big partnership
with no2 (Williams) retiring. Shakey and Hasnat bowled well
but the batters were looking to score runs and they did. The
most notable point was an ‘amazing’ bowler run
out by Shakey (!) , the no2 firmly hitting one back to Shakey
who managed to bend down stop the ball, pick it up and throw
down the stumps as the non-striker thought he’d chance
his luck that none of this would happen and attempted a quick
single. Greg on his bowling debut showed what he can do (and
maybe should have bowled in this first appearance) –
bowled with speed and accuracy pinning the batters down. Jesus
came on the at the end and picked up 2 wickets in his only
over – one lbw and the other caught by a jubilant Steveo
at long on. Trust were kept to just 129 off the reduced 18overs
– which was good work by the Cazh as at times it looked
like we would be chasing a big total.
Dan L 4-0-23-1
Dave T 4-0-33-1
Mark S 4-0-21-0
Hasnat A 3-0-36-0
Greg P 2-0-11-0
Will MW 1-0-1-2
Catches – Steveo, Run Out Mark
Jim opened with Liam F and started quite strongly, Jim abandoning
finesse and attempting cross bat slog most deliveries. Liam
playing more drives. Liam was first to fall in the 7th over
with the score on 28. Big innings were required from the next
few batters…unfortunately this wasn’t to materialise
– Will out caught at long on from his first expansive
shot, Greg on his batting debut looked good until also being
caught with a similar shot; Amir also out caught; Ned Stagg
out first ball again caught and bowled and Hasnat also caught
without scoring. All the while Jim kept up his swash buckling
at the other end and succeeded in connecting with a few ably
helped by extras. The score now on 70 from 13overs for 6.
Steveo, Dan and Shakey scored a few not before Jim was out
in the last over just short of retirement. Dave didn’t
get a go. The Cazh finished on 109-9 off the 18 overs.
Back to the club house for a few beers, crisps and a lonesome
pickled egg… with Dan presenting the League trophy to
Trust who finished top of the pile, plus Cup winners, losing
no games to rain and won all fixtures – emphatic winners.
