Match Report vs Abercarn
10th August 2025 @ Abercarn (Skipper Jim, and Report
Cheese)
The report starts with the night before and promises made
while downing spoof shots; Sanay and Richie confirming they
were available injuries aside. As the team started to arrive,
the count started to how many would start the match. Both
were good to their promises and caz were batting first.
Jimmy & Rob opened and were met with liquorish allsort
bowling and with only 2 over spells. The wicket was a little
old and ball was popping occasional as well. The partnership
started to get into rhythm with Jimmy holding a couple of
poses after agricultural slaps through the covers. Jimmy was
caught in the slips that one that climb on him. Ed took a
while to get going and did his best to run Rob out. Rob was
carrying on serenely hitting the balls that deserved to be
hit to the boundary and rotating the strike.
With Casuals in a decent place, Ed ran himself out with the
score 83-2 off 18 overs. This started a turbulent time for
Steve-o, lots of edges and toe ends, struggling to get himself
going. With only 30 runs coming off the next 8 overs, the
pressure started to build on the partnership and Rob targeted
the 29th over taking it for 15 runs and cementing a well deserved
fifty.
With the shackles broken, the feeling was that we would push
on to a 200+ score, unfortunately this was curtailed the very
next over with both batters being removed. To be fair one
batter needed to go and the other being cut down when a ton
looked possible.
The new partnership of Hasnat and Ahmad started to rebuild
and looked to turn over the strike with well taken singles.
In the taking one for these aforementioned singles Ahmad got
his bat tangled between his legs and took a tumble that resulting
in him retired hurt. Get Well Soon Ahmad.
The rest of the innings petered out, with new batsman trying
to get on with it but struggling for timing on a soft pitch.
Liam as always played some graceful shots through the off-side.
The cas finished on 178 for 6
Jimmy; 13 – caught
Rob O; 78 – c&b
Ed; 24 – run out
Steve-o; 14 – run out
Hasnat; 2 – bowled
Ahmad; 2 – retired injured
Liam; 19 – not out
Dan; 6 – caught
Sanay; 4 – not out
Tea was the usual bring your own affair with added table
service on hot drinks.
With the opposition starting with an inexperienced opening
pair, Jimmy decided to start with his own inexperienced bowler.
So Steve-o has sent into the fray looking to get through some
cheap overs, the first ball four was a remedy to that over
thinking.
To balance the inexperience at one end Sanay started to rip
the ball at the other end; 3 maidens followed with the pressure
starting to build, Sanay found the edge and Steve-o managed
to fall forward enough to take a good catch before the ball
hit the ground.
15 runs for 1 off 6 overs.
Ed & Robbie came on for 8 uneventful overs with the speed
of the game increased but not how it was going to play out.
63 for 1 off 16 overs.
With the part timers finished the main bowlers started and
straight away the chances started to come just. Frustratingly
the leading & top edges landed just short of the fielders.
Finally, one these chances did go to hand and Sanay took a
good catch. With the run rate climbing from 4.5 runs per over
at the start of the innings to 5.5 when the wicket fell, the
opposite sent out big daddy and the run rate started to climb.
Hasnat and Dan took some punishment; the fielding started
to get a ragged. There were a couple of difficult chances
not taken off Dan.
Big daddy after throwing the bat retired hurt with the game
set up for the youngsters to win. 22 runs get off 12 overs,
could the caz bowl enough wicket taking balls.
Sanay replaced Hasnat and runs started to dry up with the
op swinging and missing at Sanay’s spin and Dan’s
pace. Dan bowled the no. 3 with his last ball of his spell.
With the most likely pairing to take a wicket bowled out.
Steve-o and Ed bowled out getting milked for ones and twos
to finish the game. We did just have time for Jimmy to drop
an absolute sitter but had no effect on the game.
We lost by 7 wickets but in truth, we need to score another
40 runs to make the game interesting but well done to all
those who played with injuries to get the game on.
Steve-o - 5overs; 0 maidens; 32 runs; 0 wickets.
Sanay - 8;3;31;1
Rob O – 4;0;10;0
Ed – 5.3;0;19;0
Dan – 8;0;39;1
Hasnat – 4;0;41;1
