Match Report vs CMA 6th
August 2025 @ Llandaff Fields (Skipper Jim, report
Dan)
With a late flurry of subs being drafted in the Cazh turned
up at Llandaff Fields for their game vs CMA – the first
full game to be played between the 2 teams. Jim lost the toss
and the Cazh were fielding.
Dan opened from the Llandaff end and second ball had a close
lbw shout turned down, though the umpire looked a little unsure,
apart from a number of play and misses that was the closest
Dan got to taking a wicket. 4th ball saw the first of a few
mis-fields through the legs for 4. Goffy opened from the Pontacanna
end and was much more successful – in his second over
got one to pop off a length onto the hands of Jim, then in
the 3rd got a success lbw appeal. After 8 overs the score
on 56-2. There was one other chance of note – a good
throw by Muhammed should have resulted in a run out by Dan,
but the fumble allowed the CMA batter to make it home.
DT and Shakes took over, both started well with a wicket
each – Shakey bowling the CMA skipper who just looked
at the bat and ground after the ball had hit the wicket (it
did stay low), and Dave got one caught by Jack in the covers.
The next batter started to play his shots. Dave got another
wicket in his 3rd and last over - with another popping delivery
caught by keeper Jim. The new batter also took on the bowling
– which for Muhammed and Hasnet was unfortunate as they
took a bit of a hammering. CMA finished on 164-5 off 18overs.
A phenomenal number of extras (38) – which hopefully
weren’t double counted as the scorebook was almost impossible
to review (wides and wickets marked with w’s and b’s
and 4s dotted all over the place and no over totals column.
The running overs looked about right.
Dan – 4-0-20-0
Goffy – 4-0-26-2
DT – 3-0-29-2
Shakey – 3-0-22-1
Muhammed – 2-0-30-0
Hasnat – 2-0-31-0
Catches Jim x 2; Jack x 1
The Cazh innings – Jim on strike and Will uplifted
as need to go home to look after the kids a 8… Jim with
a bit of an optimistic swipe at the first ball resulted in
being bowled (follow up stats in the pub and beyond on how
many platinum ducks we’re had… turns out to be
quite a few including Kim in 2018 against LF centurions –
not only a first baller of the inngings – but also in
the new book!).
Will and Jack set about building the innings with some very
assured shots against some very good bowling- CMA had no spin
option (all of their 9 bowlers bowled express with varying
degrees of accuracy). The pair took the Cazh to 64 off 10
before Jack was undone by a back of a length shooter (24).
This brought Prath to the crease (after 8 o’clock –
but fortunately Will had not received the shepherds crook
by the wife – so continued). Prath hit a couple of lusty
boundaries – one narrowly missing DT who was wedged
in his camping chair. He fell in the 12th over bowled (11),
not before Will was also out ct in the 11th (26) by a very
casual looking catch on the boundary edge (must have been
close to a 6).
Steveo put on a fine display of hitting against the continued
pace attack, including a big 6 of his own, but around him
the wickets were falling – Hasnat out for 2; Muhammed
out for 0, Goffy out for 6. Steveo was finally out for 18,
leaving Dan and Shakey to try and protect DT from wandering
out – not to be – after taking one on the chest
(fortunately too late in the match for a ‘leave the
field’ moment) Shakey was bowled, bring Dave on to face
the last 4 balls which he did by taking the majority on his
pads and feet. Cazh finished on 107-9.
