Match Report vs Ferrets
6th May 2025 @ Bryn-y-Don (Skipper Steveo, report Maxy
(eventually))
Here we go, first game of he season at our new spiritual
home – The BYD Area, will it be an electric start tpo
the campaign, lets see!!
A glorious sun filled evening sky greeted the Casz and the
opposition, The Ferrets. There was an air of positivity in
and around the changing room boosted with Goffy handing out
new kit to those who had not already received, what could
go wrong? Great weather, new kit . . ..
The toss came and went without fuss with Casz batting first
where the opening batsmen were Rhys and our determined Captain
for tonights fixture, Ed both were set on creating an unforgettable
opening partnership!! This quickly transpired in to a forgettable
partnership with Rhys being bowled for zero, his season can
only get better. Next in was Will who was looking to impress
his expectant followers but after a couple of doubles and
a 4 he gave his wicket away edging behind. With score on 23
– 2 stability was needed so in came the cavalry in the
form of ‘Rupert’. Both Ed and Rupert dug in and
got the scoreboard in constant need of updating with an abundance
of singles, twos, 4s (Of which one to Ed’s joy was a
run 4!!) plus a 6 each in the mix. Eventually Ed’s wicket
fell on 41 being bowled by the person that had launched the
ball at him earlier on, the red mist was clearly visible,
low level of course.
Next in was Hasnat, or so we thought as not long in to the
innings and as a result of sporting the number 247 on his
back he quickly became Granville (24/7 Open All Hours!!) at
this point the Casz were 99-3 so still runs needed to make
a game of it. After Rupert and Granville shared 2 ½
overs adding 20 runs Rupert was bowled having contributed
an invaluable 44 runs. With the score now 119-4 and 4.2 overs
remaining something special was needed from now partnership
of Granville and Liam Forster, Liam desperately in need of
a boost as still trying to comprehend CCFC’s relegation
to Division1 but that had to be put behind him if we were
to mount a decent total. Granville kept going getting runs
where he could with Liam playing the supporting role till
the final ball leaving Granville finishing 39 NO (Including
7 boundaries!!) and Liam on 3 NO (No boundaries) setting the
Ferrets a total of 168 to win.
Ferrets started fairly steady with a couple of boundaries
but it didn’t take long for Dan to strike taking their
number 2 batsman, Hood for 12 - bowled, proving that Dan was
too good for Hood! With score on 21 in came batsman number
3 who seemed to be settling when that man Dan struck again,
bowled!! In came batsman 4 along with a change of bowling
at both ends. It didn’t long for Maxi to claim his first
victim of the Summer having bowled the incoming Baxter for
zero and the score now 64-3 from just under 8 overs so a lot
of effort needed all round if the Casz were going to start
off with a win. Their opening batsman showed no signs of relinquishing
his bat and subsequently forged a strong partnership with
their number 5 they added nearly a100 runs in good speed only
ended by the enforced 50 run retirement of the opener followed
the eventual dismissal of their number for 48 by Granville.
This left the Ferrets requiring just 1 run for victory...and
Granville almost pulled off the unbeliveable as they only
managed to get the run on the penultimate ball.
Not the ideal start to the season but surely results will
go our way from here , congrats to Granville (Hasnat) on his
quick fire 39 plus a wicket.
Match report ‘Finally’ submitted, that’s
Maxi, over and out.
