Match Report vs Glamorgan
Centurions 07 July 2022 @ Llantwit Fardre (Skipper
Richie, report Pablo)
The various Casz assembled from the country to the delights
of the hilltop ground in glorious sunshine. We were to put
it politely, depleted but we did have 11 which seemed unlikely
in the weeks leading up to the game.
The skipper did his usual and lost the toss and GC decided
to bat first on a pitch that in fairness looked like a road
and an outfield that had been freshly cut to within an inch
of its life. Things were looking ominous.
Max and Shakey opened the bowling to somewhat varying results,
Max bowled well and his line was good and didn’t go
for too many but Shakey got treated to a few slaps to mid-wicket
for 4.
The first wicket fell in the 4th over to Shakey, a backfoot
slap to cover caught very well by Naran low and dipping on
him, 27-1 and then two runs later their number 3 charged down
the wicket to attempt a sweep (I know, I was surprised too)
and got stumped by Stevo for 2 runs, (some would say a stumping
was even more surprising but he was a long way down.)
Then Max, got an absolutely stone-dead LBW in his third over
and removed the other opener they were now 30 for 3 in the
5th and then Shakes then got their number 4, again stone-dead
LBW swinging across the line in the 6th over, GC 30 for 4.
Eyebrows raised, hope of a complete stuffing fading into the
distance?
They put on a bit of a partnership from here on, a big friendly
bloke smashed some fours and sixes helped by me bowling like
a c*nt to be fair. I did get him caught at backward point
looking into the sun eventually by Rob after he had smashed
32 but the tide was turning. Naren was doing a much better
job than me at the other end and was unlucky not to get rewarded
with a wicket.
So, they were on 69-5 in the 9th over at this stage but then
the big partnership began, their number 5 and 7 ended 41 and
48 not out respectively, some fine shots, some hacks but pretty
much without a chance given. It must be reported that old
man Prior and Tim bowled admirably in trying circumstances
for 3 overs each and the batters did struggle with the lack
of pace on offer.
Max and Shakey finished off the innings with an over each,
the only notable action was an accidental beamer from Max
which resulted in the facing batsman being a knob about it
and said batsman being berated by Max and his own team for
being a knob.
GC – 160 for 5 off 20 overs
M Cullen 4-0-18-1, M Stephens 4-0-35-3, P Stephens 3-0-31-1,
Narran 3-0-23-0, J Prior 3-0-19-0
T Bluff-Hughes 3-0-33-0.
Now the batting! This will be short and not so sweet, I think
it’s fair to say we found no fluency throughout our
batting innings whatsoever, the bowling was straight but not
really threatening.
Notably, Bryn carried his bat for a dogged 37, nobody else
got into double figures, we ended up with 71 for 7 off the
20 overs.
Rob opened with Bryn and forgot his glasses, not ideal for
opening the batting, he was caught at mid-wicket I think for
7. Ram was also caught after some instances of silent calling
for 3.
Steve got caught for a duck, the skip hit a lovely 4 to long
on before getting bowled for 6. Naran also bowled for a duck.
Tim joined Bryn and hit a lovely 4 through mid-wicket before
being bowled for 9 I got run out by a pitch length trying
to run a two for a duck and Foxy finished 0 not out.
The Casuals then scurried back to where they came from.
