Match Report vs Radyr
Dads 23 June 2022 @ Wenvoe (Skipper Goffy, report Pat)
A warm evening at the Wenvoe and Neighbourhood Cricket Arena
and the Casuals lined up against the Radyr Dads/Lads in the
Willow Bowl (kind of like one of those American college bowl
games, but fewer cheerleaders and marching bands).
Under the leadership of assistant deputy interim stand-in
vice captain Goff, the Cazh fielded first. Following an opening
‘barrage’ from Foxy (up the slope), the ADIS-IV
skipper and Jack, Maxy’s first over saw off the young
openers, with the lack of Foxy’s ball-in-the-hedge retrieval
device (or colander on a stick as your correspondent was later
informed) thankfully not crucial.
The Casuals then started to make inroads into the Radyr batting
line up, Rhys taking a sharp chance behind the stumps of DT’s
bowling and Goff making up for dropping the (now customary)
captain’s easy chance at long on by taking a far harder
one off Stevo.
The RadDadLad’s middle order kept a steady run rate
and also regular wickets, Stevo, Alex and Patrick all hitting
the stumps as the batsmen swung and missed. The dynamic skipper’s
next direct contribution came in the 16th over: after moving
himself (and Foxy) around most positions in the field he fired
in a throw from the boundary which (in no way hit a divot)
and cannoned into the stumps at the non-strikers end.
After another couple of near misses between the ball and
Foxy, Nadders, Jack and Rob tidily closed out the innings
– Alex taking a catch from the final ball to despicably
dismiss a child – with RadDadLad finishing on 127 for
7.

Stevo 2-0-9-2
Alex 2-0-13-1
Nadders 2-0-11-0

Catches Rhys, Goff, Alex; Run out Goff.
With Goff’s exhortation to make sure ‘we have
a few back in the hutch’, Rhys and Alex opened for the
Cazh. They maybe misunderstood the captain’s instructions
with Rhys pulling a juggled catch to square leg in the first
over and Alex missing a low bouncing straight one soon after,
both departing for 3 and the Casuals 2 down for 8.
Rob and Stevo rebuilt through the rest of the opening bowlers’
spells, before the RadDadLad’s first change ‘strike’
bowler cleaned up Stevo and Maxy in consecutive balls and
Nadders in his second over. 35 for 5 in the 7th and the Casuals
seriously up against it.
In at 7, Foxy supported Rob through several overs as the
depth of the Radyr bowling line up became clear. Rob retired
just after Foxy had also departed (but not like that), another
wicket falling clean bowled.
Goff, Patrick, Jack and DT ensured that the Cazh batted through
the overs but tight bowling and the occasional unplayable
jaffa kept the target well out of reach as the innings closed
on 70 for 9.
Some of the team retired to a nearby hostelry to discuss
the details of the match and the ADIS-IV captain’s 100%
record…
Rhys 3 caught
Alex 3 bowled
Rob 27 not out
Stevo 4 bowled
Maxi 0 bowled
Nadders 5 caught
Foxy 2 bowled
Goff 3 bowled
Patrick 5 bowled
Jack 1 bowled
DT 2 not out
