Match Report vs Boys of the Summer - Cup Rnd 1 - 03 June 2021 @ Pontcanna (Skipper Rob, report Goffy)

Double winning Cup sensations The Casz - unbeaten in all cup competition (indoor and outdoor) for nearly 2 years - arrived at Pontcanna Fields in confident mood. Fresh from a thrilling previous round win vrs Orchestra (via a digital coin toss!)

Skipper Rob didn't know he was doing. To elaborate, he didn't know whether to bat or bowl if won toss. I'm not saying he doesn't know what he's doing but he just didn't know what he was doing at that point! For any of you who thought I was saying that Rob doesn't know what he's doing in general - It's important for me to make clear and absolutely clear that if I DID think Rob didn't know what he was doing in general, I definitely would not say that on a public forum such as this one. I hope that clears that up.

Anyway, where was I.....?

Oh yes.... It turned out that it didn't matter in the end that Rob didn't know what he was doing (and remember, this is not Rob not knowing what he's doing in general but only that he didn't know what he was doing at that point) as he lost the toss. We were fielding first.

That was a decision by the oppo that could come back to bite them on the arse. Little did they know that tonight's team selection gave us a batting line up which went all the way down to Number 2!!

Anyway our cup defence was tight in the early overs - they were 27/1 off the first 6. But things started to get a bit loose and the BOTS were able to maintain a decent run rate with some ease over the following 12.
However - we did notch 5 wickets including a wonder catch by Patrick at mid-on. What was rocketing toward the boundary was plucked out of the sky. A champagne moment and a welcome wicket for Tim. The other 4 were a regulatory catch behind by Will, and 3 bowled. Apart from that, not much else to shout about. We were left a pretty strong total of 168 to win (9.3 an over)

Bowling (all 2 overs apart from Pat & George)
Will 0 for 11
Dan 0 for 9
Goff 2 for 12 (caught behind and bowled)
Pabs 0 for 33
Patrick 0 for 7 (nearly 1 over - retired hurt)
Ben 0 for 21
George 0 for 17 (1.2 over)
Tim 1 for 21 (caught Patrick)
DT 1 for 17 (bowled)
Rob 1 for 6 (bowled)

So our reply. Well all those batsmen I mentioned earlier (Will & Ben) lived up to expectations - smashing us to a really strong start of 51 off 6 overs (nearly the required run-rate!). Will then retired (26) and the next 12 overs saw us amass another 58 (24 extras) for the loss of 7 wickets! 107-7

Will 26 n/o
Ben bowled 20
Goff caught 3
Dan caught 9
DT bowled 1
Rob caught 11
Pabs caught 12
Tim caught 1
George n/o 1
Foxy n/o 1
Patrick dnb
E.X. Tras 24 n/o

Unfortunately the cup run would come to an abrupt end. A spirited effort but we really gave ourselves little chance by conceding a few too many runs with the ball.

Nonetheless - off to the pub - beers and buffet. Everybody happy.
It's all about the league this year any way.......
