Match Report vs Lisvane
31 May 2021 @ St Mellons(Skipper Rob, report Ben)
Match day descended upon the bank holiday Monday where the
sun was shining on the picturesque pitch. Cardiff Casuals
lost the toss and went in to bat first. The opening partnership
began with a strong 29 runs before Holliday was caught. 20
runs later and number 3. Stewart followed suit, just before
New Zealand opener succumbed to a ball hitting the stumps.
This brought in village cricket specialist (not in the good
way) Baily and run out champion Stevo to the crease, surprisingly
putting on a 36 run partnership. The duo faced difficulties
when Stevo was shot in the leg, finishing the run like the
hero he is – sadly, not even the medic spectators could
save his leg. After having a runner on the pitch to compensate
for Stevo’s missing leg (spectator Jared - in his last
'match' - also with a leg injury - hence not playing), the
inevitable happened: Baily was bowled on 13 runs not long
before Stevo – who could only hit boundaries by this
point – was given LBW on 23. Captain Owens came to the
crease bringing Lieutenant Hopkinson aboard to put on a mammoth
42 and 27 runs respectfully, with an essential 2 runs contributed
by P Stephens at the end of the innings.
After realising that the sun was hotter than originally anticipated,
some sunburnt members were rearing to get going with the ball.
Fast bowling by the opening pair Day and Stewart produced
tight figures and two wickets to the latter in the first spell.
George produced some slow beauties whilst Captain Owens stepped
unto the breach again to produce fast and furious attacks;
blunting the batting attack. P Stephens went on to bowl 8
consecutive overs of tight bowling and Bluff produced three
wickets from four overs. Goffy returning to mop up the tail
and to pick up his 75th wicket as well as his 500th over milestones.
Alongside some fielding aggression, mis-fields an aerodynamics,
the Cardiff Casuals held the day winning by 33 runs - Casuals
176-6 (40overs) Lisvane 143ao (38overs)
