Match Report vs Talygarn
11 July 2019 @ St Fagans (Skipper and report Dan)
Another nice warm and sunny evening for cricket, the venue
– st fagans, the Willow fixture relegated to pitch number
3 (as a under 19s ‘blast’ comp was on the main
pitch – with Jonny F in his official umpiring capacilty.
Pitch 3 resembled a well-kept cow field. The wicket was the
same which we played on against Chartered Trust pre-season
but the demons were not apparent as they were that day (well
not for us).
Captain Dan lost the toss and the Cazh were asked to bat.
With the previous Thursday’s incessant moaning from
Steveo ringing in his ears, the skipper severely promoted
Steveo up the order to ensure ‘he got a game’
– even if it was to only last 1 or 2 balls….As
it turned out he and Kim got past the first over and well
into the 7th over before one too many ‘quick’
singles resulted in an audible cry of anguish from Steveo
as he collapsed over the crease with a popped hammy and retired
hurt. With score on 48 ish. Jesus replaced him and the run
rate accelerated. Kim and Will effectively punished anything
off track and some of that which was perfectly legitimate.
Both retired (difficult to say when, I’d suggest Kim
retired around the 10th over and Will around the 15th). Big
Willy had replaced Kim and knocked the ball around, though
Jesus had much of the strike. Not long after Jesus retired
Big Willy was out caught for the first wicket down in the
17th over. There had been a few drops in the field before
this one – which were costly. Winkie and Rob took over
and saw the Cazh through to the end of the innings, with Rob
especially playing some free-flowing shots to all parts. The
Cazh finished on a very impressive 177-1.
Kim 51 (retired)
Steveo 12 (retired hurt)
Will MW 52 (retired)
Will G 9 (bowled)
Andy H 12 no
Rob o 24 no
Dan L;Dave W; Mark;Rich;Dave T – DNB
With a large total to defend, Steveo was relieved of fielding
duty and the 10 man Cazh took the field. Dan and Shakey opened
up. Dan got the first wicket bowled in the his second over
– bit of movement off the pitch. Shakey kept the batsmen
pinned down (…) at the other end but no reward. After
8 overs Talygarn had reached 26 runs. Dan was replaced by
Dave W and Shakey by Dave T. Dave W took back to back wickets
in his 2nd both bowled and both hitting almost the same place
on the pitch – swinging in, seaming away. The hattrick
ball wasn’t a wide as predicted, but was played competently
to point. DT was unsuccessful in picking up a wicket. With
Richie hobbling around with a thigh issue, Will G and Rob
bowled the last 4 overs. Will G took a bit of stick in his
first over but came back to bowl the number 5 and penultimate
ball of the match picked up the stumping of Talygarn’s
determined opener, who batted well throughout. The stumping
could have been classed as a run out as he had cantered down
the track (but the umpire gave as stumping). Talygarn finished
on 107-5.
Dan L – 4-0-9-1
Shakey – 4-0-17-0
Dave W – 4-0-22-2
DT – 4-0-29-0
Will G – 2-0-17-2
Rob – 2-0-13-0
1 x stumping for WMW
An enjoyable match for all (probably with the exception of
Steveo – though he did enjoy it for a while), then it
was back to the pavilion and bar to have a chat about the
general state of the world and catch up with Jonny F and a
recount of Foxy’s 80th...
