Match Report vs Celtic
Hawks 15 June 2017 @ Wenvoe (Skipper and report Dan)
It might have been sunny during the day, but the evening
of this fixture – the conditions had turned cold. Dan
won the toss and with a strong batting line up (and still
waiting for Jesus to turn up) decided to bat first. Kim and
Tesh opened up. The Hawks bowling attack produced a mixed
bag – some really good deliveries, but struggled with
consistency and a lot of wides. Kim looked confident, but
was undone in the 4th over when tried to cart one that turned
out to be a good ball and top edged it to the keeper (9).
Tesh didn’t fare any better and was out next over after
cracking one to square leg only to be caught (6). Ollie was
in and Jesus had turned up so the pair began rebuilding the
innings...31-2 off 5 rattled along to 98-2 off 10, slowed
a little at 129-2 off 15 then shot up to 159 in the 17th when
Ollie was bowled for 33. Will went in the 19th over for 82
followed very quickly by Shakey 0 2 balls later. Rob (3no)
and Dan (0no) saw out the rest of the last over. 175-5, with
an impressive 36 wides.
Pete Tagliatelle and DB opened the bowling attack –
Pete was very unlucky not to take the first wicket, dropped
by Dave at square leg (would have been a good catch, even
though it did go straight to him), the second chance –
the very next ball – all happened in slow motion..the
ball looping up to Rob at mid-off...only to be put down. Instead
Dave took the credit (against the same batsman) the next over
– a carbon copy of Rob’s drop – this time
going to Dan. Pete did get his reward the next over –
caught by Tim at mid-on. Dave took 2 more wickets –
one bowled of pad, inner thigh and tickled on to the stumps,
and Pete took another also bowled. 38-5 off 8. The game effectively
won, Dan tossed the ball to Kim – who actually enticed
the new batsmen into more attacking shots. Tim also bowled
a 4 over spell without reward. Richie and Shakey finished
off – Richie got a comedy run out – the ball belted
back to him off his foot and left the non-striking batsman
stranded as it ricocheted onto the stumps. Shakey bowled one
of the 2 remaining batsmen and Richie claimed a stumping (Ollie)
off the last ball of the innings. The late order batsmen providing
Hawks with some respectability with a 47 and 39. Dan and Rob
not required.
Pete T –4-0-21-2
Dave T -4-0-17-3
Tim-4-0-28-0
Kim -2-0-12-0
Richie -4-0-30-1
Shakey – 2-0-19-1
A convincing win, then off to the pub for a pint or two and
to discuss the impending fixture vs the Aussie touring side...
