Match Report vs Cavaliers 7 May 2013 @ Cathedral School (Skipper and report Shakey)

Our league season began in glorious sunshine at the Cathedral School ground where the Cavaliers won the toss and chose to bat against winkie and Goff armed with a bright pink ball. At the end of the 4th over shakes changed the attack as they had got off to a flier with 7 boundaries helping them to 39-0. With Pabs slower bowling and the express pace of Saj the Casuals looked to stem the scoring and get some control back in the game. Paul bowled a good four over spell and was unlucky to see the opener (Davis) dropped at long-on. Saj made the breakthrough by bowling the other opener, getting an lbw decision and yorking another to put their middle order under a bit of pressure. At the end of the 12th over Cavaliers were well placed on 96-3 but the scoring rate remained high as Saj went for some extras and boundaries in his last two overs.

The next crucial drop of Davis came with shakeys first ball at the start of the 13th over - a top edge to deep square leg. For the next few overs Cavaliers ran hard, hit a few boundaries and were happy to slap the ball in the air to gaps in the field. Shakey picked up a wicket in his last over and Dan, after a very good spell, finally removed Davis for 78 with a good catch from Gareth (also should mention an excellent catch by Kim to take the wicket of Davies, unfortunately by the time he landed he was the wrong side of those little white plastic flags and therefore went for a 6). Cavaliers closed on 160-5 with Davis (3 sixes and 9 fours) and extras (18) the top scorers.

Hood 2-0-18-0
Day 2-0-21-0
Paul 4-0-24-0
Saj 4-0-30-3
shakes 4-0-33-1
Dan 4-0-29-1

Kim and Tim opened for us and were helped by some wides. After hitting a boundary Tim was bowled which brought in bowesy. Things went very well for the next 10 overs thanks to some more extras and a fair sprinkling of well hit boundaries but after hitting a big six bowesy was bowled for 32. The bowler was Davis and he again changed the game taking 3-17 off his four overs with some flighty off spin and also bowling Gareth and Saj.

So from 88-1 in the 11th over to 94-5 at the end of the 14th it all went horribly wrong. The coup de grace was the loss of Kim well caught at long-off for 40 during the 14th over. Ash and Dan didn't give up but the task was now getting that much harder. Goff provided a further late flurry of runs but it was all in vain and the cazh settled at 144-7 and defeat by 17 runs as we mustered 50 runs off the last 6 overs.
Kim 40, Tim 4, Bowesy 32, Gareth 2, Saj 0, Ash 16, Dan 10, Andy 4*, Goff 16* and extras 20

The presence of the blonde barmaid in the Butchers Arms was met with unanimous approval and after a few beers and a generous helping of crisps and nuts the cazh decided that taking some catches might just help.
