Match Report vs Sully Spartans 2 May 2011@ Sully (Skipper Muff and Report Dan)

On the assumption this was a reduced over game (32), Skipper Muff either won or lost the toss, and either elected or was told to field first. BBNadders and DB opened the bowling – excellently – BBN with a maiden, DB with a wicket caught by Britpop (tbc). No more wickets fell but after 8 overs the score was just 27. Kim and Goff picked up where BBN and Dave finished – Kim picking up a wicket first over – caught by Muff and Goff in his 3rd over – bowled. 53-3-16overs.

Muff and Cheese came on and did fine, Muff not fortunate in picking up a wicket, but Ed got one bowled. 99-4-24overs.

With Morgan still at the crease for the Spartans, Winkie and Tesh were next on for the remaining overs. Both were victim of the Sparatan’s trying (and succeeding) to post a defendable total. Neither were able to pick up his wicket and with the ball shooting across the outfield trying to stop the boundaries appeared difficult. The Spartan’s finished on a very good 173-4 off 32 overs and Morgan not out on 94.

Nadeem – 4 overs – 1 maiden – 15 runs – 0 wickets
Dave – 4-0-12-1
Kim – 4-0-12-1
Goff – 4-0-14-1
Muff – 4-0-22-0
Ed – 4-0-14-1
Andy – 4-0-29-0
Tesh – 4-0-40-0

Due to the arrangement of having tea after the game at a local caravan park, the turn around was quick. Big Willy and Britpop opened the batting, and began solidly. After 11 overs the score had reached 32, with accurate bowling only Darren finding the boundary once during this time. Their hard work was undone 2 overs later, both of the them falling trying to up the rate – Darren caught for 16 and Will bowled for 10. Kim and Ash replaced the pair and quickly adjusted to up the rate. With score on 67 in the 17th over, Kim fell caught (17). Goff came to the middle. Ash was taking much of the strike and heaved is way to the boundary as much as possible though it often resulted in 2s. Goff was eventually bowled in the 21st over for 8 with the total on 100. The Cazh had got themselves back in the game.

Tesh joined Ash. The pair looked to continued to increase the rate, they were only able to pick up singles and 2’s – not for the want of trying. On 123- 4 off 25 overs the result looked in the balance. 51 off 42 balls, The Spartans then found their catching hands and the Cazh pressed self destruct. Ash was caught 5 short of his 50. The score on 129 in the 26th over; Cheese joined Tesh, Tesh was then run out next over (18); Winkie in next and was also run out in the same over (0). BBN in next and it was Cheese who was out caught after getting a welcome 6 (11) followed very closely by BBN (0). 28 runs now required off 24 balls with no wickets remaining. Muff and DT at the crease. The pair did try, though Dave would have had to achieve his highest ever score for them to attain the target score, as it was he equalled his best score since mid 2009, before being bowled for 3. Muff left not out 7. Total 155ao off 30overs.

Will – 10 bowled
Darren – 16 ct
Kim – 17 ct
Ash – 45 ct
Goff – 8 bowled
Tesh - 18 ro
Ed – 11 ct
Andy – 0 ro
Nadeem – 0 ct
Muff – 7 no
Dave – 3 bowled.

On leaving the field the Cazh were left thinking ‘what might have been’ whilst being treated to some ‘hip hip hoorays’ from the oppo skipper, followed by a haughty rendition of the Spartan’s victory song in the changing rooms – the old queen favourite “We are the champions”. If nothing more, there is an eagerness to put this result right next season! Both teams and spectators trooped off to the eat all you can at the Seaside Bar n Grill.
