Match Report vs Dinas Powys 19th August 2009@ The Common (Skipper and Report Muff)

After fighting our way to Dinas through the rush hour traffic and the wife and our mate emma from new Zealand tucking into their first jugg of pimms we found a few of the casuals number were still in transit so the casz batted first with whomever had batting kit opening and the rest hoping Tesh and the kit would get there in time!!!

Against an attack of straight bowling from a mixture of men and kids and a player of indeterminate gender we got off to a bad start with openers Kim and Simon back in the hutch with 2 on the board. J.R and Pikey came together but were soon parted and the Casz were 3 for fuck all. Make that 4 for fuck all as , I think Richie?, perished cheaply.

Luckily for us Pikey and Shandy got us going, Jamie with his cut and Shandy driving and some good running and soon we had an half competitive total with the partnership worth 70 odd before being broken. Sorry can't remember who was out first, suffice to say there was a further clatter of wickets as we tried to get as many as possible with just a couple of overs left. The Casuals ended up on 106-8 with Muff dnb.

With the pitch playing erratically a slow outfield and half a team of kids to bowl at I was confident that we had enough on the board to get the win. If, if, we bowled and fielded well.

And blow me if we did!
Everybody in the team contributed , we were almost sharp dammit! Rog and Ed opened up and set the tone, Rog taking a wicket bowled in the first over bowling tight Cheese kept em guessing but it was either block or swing from the batsmen and with a few connecting they were up with the rate. Another wicket by (you’ll have to help me here) brought one of the dinas first team to the wicket (asian guy, stocky, spinner, bowled at Andy Hood speed and turned it!) looked like he could get the runs by himself . Fortunately he had no respect and perished to a 2 mph straight one swinging across the line. From here they seemed to come to a grinding halt not looking for quick singles and heaving to cow against an excellent Casual line from Kim, Pikey, Tesh, Shandy and Muff.

Soon the kids were in and the inevitable happened, they couldn’t hit the ball of the square and collapsed all-out for about 58!

Woo-hoo!!!!! A win! I know its not done but after not playing for weeks and being beaten when we do it felt kinda nice as the game was for the most parts played in the right way and I don’t feel even the least bit bad that the average age of the team was nearer 14 than 40!
Next.
