Match report vs
South Glam 8 August 06 @ Wenvoe (skipper and report Richie)
Shield game #4 at the Wenvoe Clarks Pie Oval saw the arrival of South Glam Education fresh from their first defeat of the season in all competition (to Chartered Trust).
With the toss safely lost we were put into bat on what Education thought would be the usual slow low track at Wenvoe.
First up was Jamie and Steve’O, first out was Jamie (which as you can imagine went against the betting around the scoring table) bowled for 1 in the 2nd over ( 5 for 1 )
Next in was Ed needing just eight runs to complete his 1,000 runs for the Casz and he duly completed this feat only to be interrupted in doing so by Steve’O departing (bowled – probably a straight one!) for 8 (2 x 4s) 15 for 2 in the 3rd over
Joining Ed at the crease was Goughy looking to pass 350 runs for the season.
After a couple of tight overs Ed was next out (caught) for the eight runs he needed to join the 1,000 Casz club (23 ofr 3 off six overs )
Now with Paul at the crease it’s usually shit or bust, in this case it was a bit of both as he departed (bowled) for 1 ( 26 for 4 in the eighth )
I was next in and Goughy was next out ( bowled ) for 6 leaving him on 349 for the season and more importantly the Casz teetering on 33 for 5 in the tenth )
Still in the tenth and I was run out (incorrectly marked in the book as a wicket to the bowler – scorers please note for future reference this does not count as a wicket to the bowler!) for 5 ( 35 for 6 )
With Monty and Winky now at the crease the score ticked over nicely for the next 8 overs and the two players, 21 and 22 not out respectively, saw the Casz to a more than respectable ( given that we were 35 for 6 off 10 ) 77 for 6 off 18 overs
77 for 6 off 18 overs (Extras 6 [6w])
This was I think the best bowling attack in the league, cup and shield. Nothing extra special just accurate and full.
There’s very little to report in the bowling as they knocked off the required runs in 15 overs without loss.
Shagger and DB opened the bowling with figures of 3-0-16-0 and 3-0-20-0 respectively.
Next up were Winky and Monty again tight figures of 3-0-11-0 & 3-0-13-0.
Finally BA and TH ended proceedings with 2-0-10-0 and 1-0-3-0
I think South Glam showed why they're where they are and we’re where we are – on our day we can beat them, even on their own patch, but if we don’t play to our full potential – and we didn’t – then it’s an uphill task.
78 for no wicket from 15 overs (Extras 15 [10w; 4lb; 1b])
