On another lovely Monday evening at Wenvoe both teams were ready, unfortunately the pitch nor changing rooms were….so after a spot of daylight streaking the teams were ready and the pitch un-fenced and ‘prepared’. The Casuals won the toss (!!) and decided to bat.

Goughy and Kim opened up and started in brisk fashion, scoring 10 off the first over (though 6 were byes). The run rate steadied and so did the batsmen. At 10 overs we were 67 without loss, both batsmen had been dropped, but good solid batting (in bloody hot conditions). Goughy was first to ‘fall’ caught (30), and for the first time I can remember he actually said he was glad he was out!!! A first wicket partnership of 80 (off 12 overs). Jamie ‘don’t tell them’ Pike joined Kim in the middle. Kim got to his 50 in the 14 th over and then was bowled to a low one. TH joined Pike and put on a further 25 before pike was out lbw (25). TH was then bowled by a good un for 7. Tesh and Skipper paired up in the 18 th over, before Richie was bowled for 2, bringing Shagger to attempt to run out the remaining 5 batsmen in the four balls that remained….didn’t happen. Innings closed Tesh (0 not out) and Dan (1 not out) – total – 149-5.

With the Oz Bar facing an uphill battle, Richie opened the attack with Dewbs and Kevin Mavely (bowler). Dewbs bowled well, though struggled with his run up to begin with, Kevin flighted (?) the ball wonderfully and was rewarded with a sharp caught behind (from Goughy) to get the oppo’s key batsman for a duck. Dewbs bowled a maiden next up and Kevin got another wicket – stumped by Goughy. The Oz bar struggling at 4-2 off 4 overs. Kevin’s next over was rewarded with a catch from Tesh (somewhere in the field). Dewbs finished with 0 for 13, and Kevin 3 for just 7 runs.

James Roach and Tesh bowled the next stint, James accurate from the start bowling his first victim, getting the next lbw (bit dodgy, but hey), the next caught and bowled, and finally another bowled. James finished with 4 for 21, very good. Meanwhile Tesh was experimenting with spin and was a bit unlucky not to get his first wicket via a catch from Shagger in the deep (accused of not focusing on the game…). However, Tesh did get a wicket with an excellent caught and bowled, and just for good measure after catching it but still ‘in flight’ managed to make sure by running out the batsman as well. Tesh finished 1 for 21. Richie bowled the next, and shagger the penultimate over, but it was Richie who got the final wicket caught shagger. Innings closed 73ao off 18.4.

Richie was also accused of not focusing on the game, though I don’t think it had anything to do with the group of females enjoying an evening of gymnastics and giggling on the one boundary……

Special mention to Richie, even though he only scored 2 runs it was enough to take him to 1000 career runs for the Cazh.
