Match Report vs Rogerstone
13 May 2018 @ Wenvoe (Skipper and report Dan)
With Cross Keys pulling out, Rogerstone came to our rescue
and offered to host this Sunday fixture. The sun was shining,
the pitch was looking solid, Captain Dan lost the toss and
the Cazh were asked to field – all was going to plan!
Dan and Shakey opened the bowling and both batsmen started
steadily, after the fist 8 overs only 22 on the board. The
only chance offered was an unsuccessful lbw shout by Dan,
that looked close but Jesus suggested it was 50/50. Goffy
and Dave took over as 1st change from the 9th over. Goffy
got the breakthrough in the 12th over caught behind by Jesus
to one that lifted. At 15 overs, Goffy spell was over and
the score was on 50. Dave continued and bowled excellently
for no reward other than he didn’t go for many runs
and according to Shakey – the ball was taking spin and
turning loads…which usually means the wicket is uneven.
Paul replaced Goffy and Obee1 replaced Dave. Paul looked to
be back on form after a blip of the mid-week game –
even the flipper came out…twice in succession. Pete’s
form matched Dave’s and even bowled 2 maidens! Steveo
took over from Pete, and occasionally lost the line, plus
the batsmen realised that they need to push on a bit. Luvvers
had a go too, some mean looking deliveries and kept the batman
guessing if it would bounce (or pitch!) At 35 overs the score
had reached 125. Dan and Shakey retuned, Dan bagging the opener
who nicked one to Will again (79) and Shakey enticed a run
out from Rob. The Number 3 just had time to reach his maiden
50 before the end of the last over. Rogerstone finished on
a steady 164 -3.
Dan 6-0-23-1
Mark 6-0-19-0
Goff 4-0-23-1
Dave 8-0-17-0
Paul 6-0-15-0
Pete O 4-2-24-0
Luvvers 4-0-24-0
Steveo 2-0-23-0
Tea – I’ll leave this to Pete to report o, however,
it was massive and one of my favourite teas!!
Rogerstone only had 8 players, so the Cazh offered to provide
2 fielders to have another run around the field…Rich
to be fair seemed happy to, Pete less so! Dave (sore foot)
was resigned to doing the score. Luvvers and Rob opened the
batting. After 8 overs the Cazh were flying, luvvers playing
many aggressive shots to the bad ball and the score had raced
to 46. The change of bowler was to provide the undoing of
a) Luvvers and b) the fast score rate. 49 for 1 off 10. Jesus
joined Rob and continued to build the innings. Going was slower,
there had been a few changes to the fielding volunteers by
the time the next wicket fell – Jesus cutting one straight
to backward point (24). 87 for 2 off 23. Goffy uplifted through
the ranks came in at 4 in an attempt to re-find his batting
form, I’m not sure when he last had it but where ever
it was he had left it there, out for a duck trying to play
the ball whilst walking down the pitch. Richie joined Rob,
runs were nurdled rather than smashed, but the score ticked
along. Rob was finally undone – caught at mid-on trying
to up the pace. Steveo came in and first ball was the best
– an excellent cover drive for 4. The innings was never
going to get better than that and a few overs later he was
out bowled. Pete got a straight one and Rich played on with
a few overs to go. Dan and Paul went out for swing and connected
with quite a few but were unable to score the 24 required
off the last over. 156-7.
A very enjoyable game, lovely pitch and friendly team.
