Match Report (Tour 1)
vs Purley on Thames 13 September 2014 @ Purley on Thames
(Skipper Britpop, report Kim)
Umm, what can I say about the cricket apart from we got absolutely
walloped! We arrived at Purley on Thames on time with lots
of sore heads and glorious sunshine. Why you might ask...well...sorry
don’t have enough time [or the memory] to tell you but
for those that have been on a Casual tour before you already
know the answer. We waited for quite a while until the other
team turned up. In the end we got bored and asked them if
they wanted to bat first. They accepted with glee. During
the car journey to the ground Britpop asked Captain Kim whether
he could captain one of the two games over the weekend as
he has never captained before. Captain Kim thought yes, what
a great idea, let Britpop captain today considering the state
of the team!
So on to the field we went with Captain Britpop at the helm.
It’s fair to say we didn’t cover ourselves in
glory at any stage of their innings with number of drop catches
and numerous of mis-fields, some of which was quite entertaining!
One of their opener got a ton (109 retired out) whilst the
other scored 66. The opener with the ton retired and their
number 3 batsman came out and twatted us around the park.
As we approached the end of their innings the question was
would the Casuals take any wickets!? Cometh the 37th over
cometh Daniel san with ball in hand and holy smoke he bowled,
and the bails are off...we have a wicket! Next ball, Dan bowls,
batsman goes for a massive hit but only could sky it to mid-off
where Winkie took the catch. 2 wickets in 2 ball, crickey
can Dan get a hat-trick, can we bowl them out, can we get
back into to this game...all these questions! Alas, the answers
were no, no and no! Purley on Thames finished on 256 for 3
off their 40 overs. All the bowlers got tonked with Daniel
san taking the only two wickets.
Lewis 8-0-33-2
Loveridge 8-0-46-0
Hood 5-0-24-0
Day 5-0-30-0
Stewart 5-1-40-0
Hirani 3-0-23-0
Obee 2-0-10-0
O'Reilly 2-0-11-0
Holliday 2-0-16-0
Tea was taken but little was consumed as we were all still
feeling quite fragile! And to the batting, or should I say
the lack of batting. Out stroll Kim and Tesh to open and in
stroll Tesh out for 5 (bowled). Captain Britpop then came
out to play a captain knock but was suffering too much from
the night before so went for a massive heave-oh and caught
without troubling the scorers. Next in was Pete who and next
out was Pete for nought. Casuals 18 for 3. Lovers now join
Kim at the wicket with a serious partnership needed. Both
Kim and Lovers looked to restore some Casuals pride and batted
very sensibly until the 30th over. In the progress both passed
50 with Kim first followed shortly after by Lovers. The two
put on 105 runs before Kim went for one big shot too many
and out for 70 caught at long-off. This set off another Casuals
collapse as Lovers soon followed for a brilliant 52 then Richie
for 8, Steve O for 4, Andy for 2, Dan for 2 and Goff for a
golden! All out for 166 with Cheese stranded not out for 12.
I blame the collapse to Britpop’s poor dedication to
his job as captain who after throwing his wicket away retired
to the clubhouse and fell asleep for pretty much the whole
of the Casuals innings!! We stayed for a few tinnies before
heading back to the hotel!
