Match Report vs Cavaliers
27 June 2019 @ Wenvoe (Skipper and report Dan)
The conditions were set fair and sunny, however, the wind
howled like a virgin (note to self – change this this
for the website). Captain Dan was given preference of whether
the bat or bowl and with Jesus’s words of wisdom ringing
in his ears (we are shit at chasing), Dan elected to bat first.
Dan then departed to the changing room to get changed, 2 minutes
later he was joined by Kim the opening batsman – given
out lbw 3rd ball. Bollocks. Big Willy and Jesus got underway
to build the inning s – which they did, Jesus dealing
predominantly in boundaries to start with. The pair got to
43 before Big Willy top edged one and was caught and bowled
– a diving c&b no less. Martin next in, and was
a bit rusty from a few weeks off – when he hit it, he
often wanted to run, but there was no shifting Jesus. Jesus
was shifted by the bowler in the 14th over, losing concentration
and playing down the Bakerloo line. 59-3 off 11.
Steveo next in against the sharp and accurate Gravey. Bets
were placed. First ball crashed through covers… followed
by another – very odd. Martin brought us back to normality
– after calling a quick single, he politely informed
Steveo that the ball would be going to steveos end –
only for Martin to be run out by a direct hit at his end.
Steveo then partnered the first of the two newbies Pete, Pete
scored a couple of runs before being bowled by the returning
left arm swinging opening bowler. Rob’s innings was
shorter than his walk to the middle – bowled first ball
and Dan walked in on a hattrick – to edge it for 4.
With Steveo departing, other newbie Dan joined the skipper.
The scorers unable to see any physical difference between
the 2 Dan’s could only identify age as the difference
– young and slightly less young…it might have
been easier to spot who was playing to more correct shots
and looked more like a batsman…The pair put on 25 off
the last 4 overs to take the total up to 123- 7 off 20.
Kim – lbw 0
Wil G – c&b 11
Jesus – b 31
Martin – run out 10
Steveo – b 20
Pete Spiers – b 3
Rob O – b 0
Dan L – no 8
Dan King – no 15
Matt c & Dave T – DNB
Maxy and DT opened the bowling, Maxy started well, DT didn’t
– getting dispatched for boundaries in the first over,
however, he pulled this back with a maiden 2nd. Maxy continued
to be steady through his spell but both with out reward. Old
Dan took over from Maxy at the pavilion end into the wind
and young Dan bowled with the wind from the other. The skipper
went for just singles during his opening spell, but young
Dan bowling what could only be described as spin (don’t
often see that within the team) and he picked up 2 wickets
both bowled.
When Rob and Kim took over and the game looked as though
it was more in favour of a Cazh victory with the Cavaliers
requiring 50 off the last 5 overs. The retirement of Steaders
may not have helped, as although he finished in style with
a 6, he had rotated the strike with nurdles rather than clubbing
hits like the new bat. It came down to the last over –
Cavaliers requiring 10 to win. The skipper took the responsibility
(bit like the Afgan skipper did against Pakistan). There were
2 close catching chances not reached and a Chinese cut of
middle stump – but the end result was the Cavaliers
won off the last ball. A disappointing result, but thoroughly
enjoyable match.
Maxy 3-0-17-0
DT 3-1-20-0
Dan L 4-0-19-0
Dan K 4-0-15-2
Rob O – 4-0-32-0
Kim 2-0-21-0
