Match Report vs Chartered
Trust 03 July 2014 @ St Fagans (Skipper Shakey, report
Shag)
Trust won the toss and elected to bat on the far pitch at
St Fagans. Goff and Rolf opened the bowling and started excellently
- Goff restricted them first over, and Rolf picked up the
first wicket in his first over – caught by Steveo in
the deep. The new batsman demonstrated that he wasn’t
going to hang around going for his shots. Shakey and the Don
took the early brunt of attack but allowed both No 2 &
3 batsmen to leave the attack by retiring quickly. JR and
Winkie took on the mantle, the No 4 was run out by Winkie
off JR’s spell. Winkie took the next wicket bowled,
and in fairness could have had next batsman out 3 times had
the ball not been consistently hit to the same fielder...Shag
dropped the first at long off, the second he didn’t
see until it was on him at knee level and the third he took
on his chest – accompanied by a Steveo like shout of
c**t as it hit the body. Pablo and Shag next into the attack.
Both stemmed the flow of runs against the middle order –
Paul going for just 2 off his second over, shag just one off
his first. Shag also got the next wicket caught again by a
grinning Steveo at long on. Steveo and Tesh bowled the last
2 overs, Tesh picking up 2 wickets – one bowled, one
stumped by Kim. 151-6.
An achievable target, but we knew the bowling would be as
good as their batting. Tesh and pinch hitter Steveo opened.
Tesh pushed the singles early on speeding up briefly with
a boundary then returned to singles. Steveo had both his pinch
and hitter removed from his armoury as it appeared he couldn’t
hit a barn door with a banjo and was out for 1 - when he did
get bat on ball (back of the bat) and was looped to the keeper
- which thankfully put him and us out of our misery. Winkie
next in and he a Tesh put on a steady partnership until Tesh
fell for 15. 38-2 off 5.2. Kim in next with high hopes. He
rotated the strike with Winkie and got us to 57 before he
was caught out for 13 and Winkie retired. Shag with a nose
bleed promoted up the order tried didn’t hang around
long caught next over for 3, and inadvertently started the
Cazh collapse, as the team tried to push the score along quickly
(or the game as it turned out) 65-4 off 10overs lead to 89
for 9 off 17 overs. Pablo lasted a ball or 2 before being
caught 0. The Don was out for 2 stumped; Goff scored 6 and
somehow remained not out until the end of the innings; Rolf
run out for 1; JR bowled for 1; Shakey bowled for 3. Winkie
returned in the last over and survived scoring 30 not out.
The Cazh finishing on 95-9 well short of the target.
Beers in the bar before heading off home wondering ‘what
if’....
