Match Report vs Cavaliers
15 May 2014 @ Wenvoe (Skipper and report Shakey)
Our first league match of the season - a time, this early
in the season, when anything is possible and the game can
change with one ball. In fact this was a match where one ball
did the trick.
Goff opened for the cazh down the slope from the pavilion
end against a Cavaliers batting line-up that has caused us
problems of late. His first ball to the left hander shaped
in towards leg on a good length, pitched and straightened
and knocked back the top of off stump. The perfect delivery!
Grinning casuals couldn't quite believe what had just happened.
Goff's next ball wasn't as good as his first. But if its
straight and the batsman doesn't move his feet he's in trouble.
Yep, bowled. The grins were now wide smiles and Chris Harris
on debut asked if this happened very often. It doesn't! Marchant
was able to leave the hat-trick ball and its pretty rare that
a league match starts with a double wicket maiden.
From then on Steadman and Marchant batted with authority
to put on a stand of 72 with lots of singles. Paul bowled
Marchant for 34 and there was a late flurry of wickets as
Paul grabbed 3-15 and the Casuals finished with a reasonable
bowling display and some solid fielding with only two difficult
half chances put down and the Cavaliers only hitting four
boundaries. A score of 121-7 was a little over par helped
by the 23 extras.
Day 4-1-9-2
M Stephens 2-0-11-0
P Stephens 4-0-15-3
Harris 2-0-16-0
Roach 2-0-17-0
Hood 4-0-31-2
Britton 2-0-8-0
The Casuals got off to the worst possible start as the first
ball of the innings again did the trick. Tesh was undone and
bowled to end his long streak without a duck. Will and Kim
steadied the ship but in truth our innings never really got
going and Kim couldn't take of advantage of two simple spilled
catches. Will and Kim both managed a six but when Kim holed
out to a good catch at deep square leg the game was all but
over. Our demise was helped by Goff, JR, winkie and Chris
all falling first ball (the latter to a run out) and the innings
faded to 76 all out with only Darren showing some resistance
before he was run out for 16.
Hirani 0, Swain 24, Will 12, O'Reilly 6, Britton 16, Day
