Match Report vs Eclipse
23 May 2012@ St Fagans (Skipper and report Shakey)
Eclipse won the toss and elected to bat first at St Fagans
where we never seem to do well. Goff and Paul opened up and
it quickly became clear that seamers were going to be difficult
on a slow pitch which seemed to make the ball sit up and get
spanked over a quick outfield. 25 came off the first 4 overs
courtesy of five 4s as the batsmen dealt in boundaries. Foxy
came on and the lack of pace did the trick but Gwion fared
as the other seamers had and took a little tap.
Foxy got the breakthrough with a deserved lbw against Chris
Stork to leave them 49-1 off 10 but that served to bring Niluka
in and the assault began. Gwion, Stevo and Paul all got clobbered
by Niluka and the opener with 53 runs leaked off 5 overs.
Shakes came on and his third ball went for a big 6 from Niluka
before taking revenge bowling him next ball. But the runs
kept coming with the opener playing some crisp lofted shots
off the slow bowlers before Shakes finally had him stumped.
Paul also picked a late wicket but Eclipse amassed 158-4.
The cazh needed a good start and we got one. Jam, Tesh and
extras propelled the score to 37 off the first 3 overs before
Jam was inexplicably bowled for 14. Gaz Thom was also quickly
out but Darren joined Tesh and the pace was resumed with the
cazh reaching 66-2 off 8. The 9th over saw the introduction
of Brian Condon and it was then that the game changed. He
bowled Tesh second ball for 22 and then proceeded to complete
a wicket maiden. His four over spell went for just 8 runs
and he picked up 4 wickets to blow the middle order away,
helped a little by an erroneous lbw decision which is best
left to the two casuals concerned to ponder and apologise
to each other about.
But basically that was that as every bowler in the match
proved expensive apart from Foxy and Brian. Darren went for
a fluent 30 including one nice pick-up six to cow, Paul hit
21 with three pleasing boundaries. But we subsided to 119
all out with one ball left.
We didn't drop any catches but couldn't compete with Eclipse
hitting seven 6s against our one, partcilularly given the
stranglehold they made in the middle of our innings. A fair
result.
