Match Report vs Tredegar
14 August 2011@ Tredegar (Skipper Cheese, report Dan)
With a strong side the Cazh made their way up to Tredegar.
Tredegar perhaps out for victory after their defeat last season.
Skipper Ed may have won the toss or lost it, but either way
the Cazh were fielding. In a turn of events it looks like
this game was a 40 over match but with no maximum bowler limit…a
sign perhaps of limited bowling options in the Tredegar ranks…?
Lovers and Goff opened the attack. The book doesn’t
show the speed of the runs scored, but after bowling 8 and
9 overs each both had picked up a wicket (bowled), but had
gone for 42 and 54 runs respectively. The score 100-2 off
17 overs.
The Stephens twins took hold of the bowling reigns. Leading
wicket taker Paul continued his fine form picking up 3 wickets
from his 8 overs 2 caught by Jonny F and Ash and one unusually
‘hit wicket’ of their top scorer. Shakey was a
little (ok a lot) less fortunate. No wickets and getting pummelled
for 70 runs – admittedly off 10 overs. Cheese and Jonny
F had a bowl neither picking up any more wickets but trying
to contain the runs. There were 2 run outs by Goff and Cheese.
Tredegar finished on 258-7 off 40 overs.
Gaz – 8overs – 1 maiden – 42 runs –
1 wicket
Goff – 9-0-54-1
Paul – 8-0-40-3
Shakey – 10-0-70-0
Ed – 3-0-29-0
John – 2-0-14-0
Extras – 32
A formidable total, but a good wicket and strong batting
side. Anything was possible….New opening pairing of
Richie and Tesh strode to the crease. After 17 runs and 6.3
overs Richie was walking back to the pavilion having been
bowled for 7 including a boundary. New entry the lesser spotted
Durnall made his way to the crease for the first time in years.
Chris got a single off the first ball, blocked the next 14
deliveries and was finally caught – obviously unleashing
(1). 32-2-11overs. Ash joined Tesh. After a few boundaries
and a 6 Tesh was finally caught for a good 20. 50-3 off 15overs.
Jonny F next up. Unfortunately Ash was to fall then next
over (after also scoring a 6), bowled for 16. 53-4. Cheese
joined John. The pair battled along and started to score,
however Ed was adjudged lbw in the 19th over (6). Lovers next
in. This pair put on the show and saving grace for the Cazh.
In the next 10 overs they put on just shy of 100 runs. Boundaries
and running from John, and mainly boundaries from Gaz (including
3 consecutive 6s). Gaz was finally caught out trying to reach
his half century in style (47). Jonny F fell the following
over bowled for 56 (from 44 balls). The total a respectable
178-7 off 30 overs.
Taking time out from teaching young ladies home economics
in Rome, Smitts played his maiden appearance of the season
and picked up where Gaz/John left off. He and Goff continued
to play the shots and took the Cazh over the 200 mark in the
33rd over. The Cazh were still in this. Smitts finally fell
in the 34th over having been bowled for 25. he was replaced
by Paul who was caught for 3 in the 36th over. Shakey last
man in nurdled as fast as he could nurdle, but was out lbw
in the 37th over for 2. This left Goff not out on 16. The
final total 221ao.
A very good fight back from the Cazh, and I bet Tredegar
were thinking back to last season with 10 overs to go. A cracking
game.
