Match Report vs Miskin
12 Septmber 2010@ Miskin (Skipper and report Shag)
The return of the good weather brought many of the Touring
Cazh together once again. With everyone on time bar Ash, the
toss was lost and the Cazh were asked to field. With the last
of the Cazh arriving just before the start the game began
in glorious sunshine.
Winkie and Dion opened up. Winkie’s first over was
spot on, though after Captain Dan had said the tree never
gets hit, the last delivery from Andy was nicked through slips
and hit the tree for 4. Dion would have bowled a maiden…had
it not been for 5 wides! As would his 2nd if it hadn’t
been for one short delivery that was dispatched for 6 over
the short legside boundary. Winkie continued to bowl excellently
without reward, the only chance going to Goff at gully, but
he did exceptionally well to stop it let alone catch it. Andy
bowled through, whilst Dion was replaced after 4 overs, replaced
by Shag. Shag too, was carted for a 6 in his first over, but
battled back and took the first wicket caught by JF at short
mid wicket. 55-1-16overs.
Shakey took over from Winkie and kept the run rate down bowling
a good line and length. At drinks the Cazh had contained Miskin
to 75-1-20overs. Steveo took over for Dan at the river end
and started excellently confusing the batsmen with his slow
pace, but good line and length. Shakey’s last 3 overs
somewhat spoiled his previous figures as J Harris started
to open up and hit a couple of 6’s and 4’s. Steveo
followed the same fate being hit for 4 6’s over the
legside boundary. 152-1-28overs.
Needing a breakthrough, Dion and Shag returned into the attack.
First over back, Shag clipped Harris’ off stump to stop
him getting to his century. 172-2-30overs. In the field all
of the Cazh had been throwing themselves around, excellently
stopping many more runs, Ed, had he been between 2 inches
and 6 foot taller could have got a couple of catches, Tesh
stopping some sharp shots at cover and Ash stopping the occassional
delivery that was missed by the batsmen. JF since the tour
has perfected the sliding stop and used it whenever possible.
Unfortunately, his calf was unable to maintain this level
of activity and pulled up in the 31st over and JF had to depart
the field. In the 31st over Dion got the wicket of Whitely
who had also reached his 50, caught by Shakey at mid off.
Goff replaced Shag and bowled well with only one over pitched
(or not pitched) delivery that was sent over the ropes also
without bouncing. Shakey, followed the same fate as JF though
this time without doing anything obvious apart from standing
up then falling down, fortunately he was able to stay on the
field In his last over, Dion took his second wicket caught
by a juggling Dan at gully. 214-4-35overs. Tesh replaced Iain
and although getting a bit of punishment in his and the innings
last over was rewarded with a wicket – a well taken
catch by Goff at long on. Miskin finished on a daunting 257-5.
Andy H – 8-1-18-0
Iain – 8-0-59-2
Dan – 8-1-35-2
Mark – 6-0-48-0
Steveo – 4 -0-40-0
Goff – 4-0-26-0
Tesh – 2-0-22-1
Extras 23.
Tea was taken, and although cleared was plentiful and varied
(and at normal price!)
With JF out of the game, Cheese and Britpop opened up and
started steadily against an accurate quickie from the tree
end and an energetic if a little wayward bowler from the other.
In the 3rd over, Cheese found his Cheese slice and hit a few
boundaries. In the 7th over, it was Ed who was first to fall
bowled by a goodun (22). 33-1. Ash joined Darren. A few comedy
runs were attempted, one of which was very close to a run
out. However, it was Darren who was next to fall in the 12th
over caught at slip (12). Tesh was next in and batted patiently
along with Ash. Looking to increase the rate, Ash started
to open up and hit a good on drive which stopped just short
of the boundary, having previously challenging JF to a race
over 60 yards (before the injury), Ash backed himself to make
3 runs, the fielder and bowler had other thoughts and Ash
fell just short and was run out (18). 65-3-15overs.
Goff joined Tesh, 4 overs later, Tesh was next to go, not
quite getting hold of one and was caught at mid off (4). 82-4.
Drinks were taken. At the comparable point of the Miskin innings,
The Cazh were ahead, but 4 wickets down. Steveo was next in,
looking forward to a long innings…unfortunately he took
on the bowlers after 2 balls and top edged it to the keeper
(1). 83-5. Not long after Goff was also out bowled (12). 88-6-22overs.
Winkie and Shag were now at the crease. Shag started as he
meant to go on, by hitting what looked like a boundary, but
stopped a couple of inches short. I don’t think any
run went to the off side, nor any shot finding the middle,
but the run rate was increased and the tree was hit! Winkie
survived a close run out and was very unfortunate to get out
to an excellent catch at short mid wicket (9). 123-7. Shakey
hobbled to the middle and it looked like any ‘quick’
singles would be scarce, however, his long stint scoring had
rejuvenated his injury. However, no quick singles were required
as Shag’s batting lives ended being caught at mid on
(28). 127-8-30overs.
Last man Dion made his way out and played out 12 deliveries
before hitting his first run. He and Mark played conservatively
for the remainder of the innings, even facing the opener who
returned for an over. Shakey refound his dab with good affect.
The pair finished not out at the end of the 40 – Mark
23 and Iain 5. The score was made respectable at 162-8.
A very enjoyable game, played in very high spirits. Spectators
Andy F, Richie and Dave all seemed to enjoy the sunshine and
game, along with some family spectators. The Cazh performance
with the bat, ball and fielding was better than the scores
suggest, against some destructive Miskin batting, accurate
bowling and sharp fielding. Everyone should be happy with
their performance even if they personally may have been disappointed
with certain aspects.
A jolly good game.
