Match Report vs Cardiff Bay Babas 16 June 2010@ Wenvoe (Skipper Dan, report Paul)

Another warm sunny evening at Wenvoe, the pitch is dry and a bit bouncy and everyone is on time but for the kit and Capt. Dan, we loose the toss and are inexplicably asked to bat by the oppo.

Ed and Ash opened up and a partnership of 48 eschewed, 2 fours for Ash including a straight lofted drive and Ed took toll of a particular over getting double figures off it with the cut and pull. Ed was out 1st for 21 bowled by a good one. Kim came in and he was his belligerent self with 36 consisting of 3 4’s and 2 6’s. Ash was out next for 21 bowled running down the wicket by a full toss (61 for 2).

Shandy joined Kim and put on 59 with him, Shandy’s 17 contained 2 well hit 4’s as he contrived to give Kim as much of the strike as possible. Kim was very well caught in the deep at cow corner (120 for 3) and Shandy fell at the same score (120 for 4)
JR and Gareth were at the crease together until the score reached 143 for 5 when I gave JR out LBW for 9 hitting one four. Goff joined Gareth who I also gave out LBW for 18 swinging across the line trying to keep up the run rate having played very well hitting two fours.

Goff got 9 including a four, Tesh had 3, both were run out pushing the fielders and Dan was 0 not out at the end in an innings containing 30 odd extras totalling 164.

We opened up with Muff and myself, I bowled one of the openers with one that nipped back to take the middle pole in the 1st over. Muff had the number 3 caught at mid on by cheese in the 4th over. I bowled the other opener for 1 in the 5th over with a good ball even if I do say so myself.

Now Imran our old buddy of indoor fame and cow corner abuser came in and danced down the wicket to Muff and hit him for a 6 over Muff’s head, he later tried it again and was stumped by Kim, or was he? Well Imran began to walk, the umpire (CBB’s club chairman) said not out. Kim lost his rag and had a right go at anyone that might be listening and the CBB’s skipper had to ask Dan to calm him down, which he did quite quickly. Enough said about that incident other than he looked out to me at midwicket.
In my last over I caught the 5 batsmen for 1 (4 overs 3 for 12) and Muff finished with 1 for 19 off his 4. Tesh was next on and the ball was turning and he took 2 fine wickets. Kim stumped one and caught one off one that really bounced and Dan at the other end ended Imran’s innings with a return catch for the top score of 19. He then bowled the next guy with a Yorker and Tesh caught the number 9. Dan bowled very well 3 overs 3 for 10 and Tesh had 3 overs 2 for 20.

Goff came on from the field end and bowled one just short of a length and got creamed through the straight cover only to find Tesh directly in the way looking into the sun clinging onto a sharp chance, 1 ball, 1 wicket.

CBB’s all out for 62 off 14.1 overs for a good win
