Match report vs GE Healthcare
1st June 06, Wenvoe (skipper Richie, report Paul)
I have the honour of doing the match report for the GE Healthcare
game played on Thursday 1st June. To set the scene, we had
not played a game in quite some days but the skipper fell
right back into the grove and lost the toss and we had to
field on a very pleasant Thursday evening in Wenvoe. We all
arrived on time and after a short wait for the opposition
Mr Hood and Nadeem started the ball rolling.
Andy was quite erratic by his standards for the first few
overs (his standards are much higher than most it must be
said) but ended up with 4 overs for 10 runs with a maiden
and no wickets. Nadeem on the other hand had a difficult 3
over spell in which he could neither find a consistent line
or length, there were a few good balls that caused the batsmen
some problems but his 3 overs for 20 runs show that Nadeem
is still a bit rusty, I'm sure things will settle down in
time mate don't worry.
Then came the trundling twosome, not Andy F in this case
but Myself & Muff, my first over went without incident
but Muff took 3 wickets in his first, LBW, caught Steve behind
the stumps (!) & bowled as I remember and he was on a
hat-trick and took 3 in 4. Then my turn, I was also on a hat-trick
in my 2nd over and I got 3 in five i think, bowled, LBW &
bowled. Me and the little un kept them quiet, Muff finished
with 4-0-17-3 and I had 4-0-9-3 all through this carnage their
opening bat looked very good and ended up on 36 not out at
the end on the innings.
Matt Davies and Kim then bowled very well to complete the
innings, Matt with 3-0-11-0 and Kim with 2-0-3-2 both bowled
and they ended their innings on 81. So far I have avoided
talking about the fielding which was quite lax to say the
least, our keeper it must be said did not cover himself in
glory and the 6 byes allotted to the GE total seem generous
and the 19 wides bowled were very disappointing, must do better.
Now for the batting, Jamie & John F opened and all looked
well until an edge to slip by jamie saw him depart for 5.
The bowling was steady but not spectacular and the young lad
bowling a decent line and length accounted for Smitty, bowled
playing across the line to a "Wenvoe" delivery (you
really do have to play straight mate) for 6. Matt Davies was
in next and played a lovely drive for 3 before his eyes lit
up and he tried to welly a leg side full toss and was caught
at mid wicket.
Mr F stood at the other end and with a mixture of the odd
lusty blow and some fine running was going nicely until he
was out to a bat pad catch (I Know!!!) for 18, Kim had joined
John and he welcomed his good friend Steve to the crease for
one of his 2 ball ducks, (what do you call a duck with 2 balls?
- Steve O'Reilly). sorry Steve but you made runs on Sunday
so I now deem it ok to take the piss).
Winky joined Kim for a good steady partnership which saw
Kim score 20no & Andy 11no to complete a good victory
with the help of 19 wides off them. Rounding off a 13 point
win for the good guys.
