Match report vs Sevenoaks @ wenvoe 3 august 2006(skipper and report Richie)

Shield game #3 at Wenvoe saw the return game against Sevenoaks HiFi with the Casz looking for revenge for the earlier defeat in the league.

With the Casz (me!) winning the toss I decided to bat on a pitch which didn’t look great after Tuesday’s damp conditions and certainly wasn’t going to improve.

The opening pairing of Goughy and Mr Tickle was soon interrupted by the dismissal of Tesh (caught) for 2 ( 12 for 1 off 3 )

Easy came and went (caught for 1) with Goughy following closely behind (caught for 10) leaving us 21 for 3 in the 5th over.

Does this ring any bells (a Casz collapse on the cards ?)

Manish joined me at the crease before I too departed (caught [slip] for 3) with Kim’s dog’s dick impression (bowled for 0) leaving the Casz 21 for 5 in the 7th

Things were looking bleak but a mini revival (partnership off 29 between Manish and Rob) restored some hope and even when Rob was out (bowled) for 3 Shagger helped to keep up the pace sharing in a stand of 21 before he too was out (caught) for 7.( 71 for 7 at the end of the 14th )

During this time Manish had plundered away with the two partners and was more than keeping the scoreboard ticking over.

Next man in was Nadeem and after a brief stay (bowled for 1) Dewbs joined Manish and added 14 for the 9th wicket before he left (bowled for 3) leaving Elvis a rare batting opportunity.

A final wicket stand of 17 took us to the close and left Andy 5 not out and Manish achieved his first 50 for the club with a [fumbled] 4 off the last ball of the innings – a fantastic knock as only 84 were scored off the bat from a total of 105.

105 for 9 off 18 overs (Extras 21 [2nb; 18w; 1lb])

With a much higher total to defend than looked achievable when the score was on 21 for 5 a close game looked on the cards.

Shagger and Rob opened the bowling with Shagger taking wickets in his 2nd and 3rd overs (both caught Goughy and Kim respectively) finishing with good figures of 3-0-17-2. Rob ‘golden arm’ Sage produced a superb spell of tight accurate bowling to also take 2 wickets (caught [Nadeem] and LBW) in figures of 3-1-2-2.

17 for 4 off 6

Nadeem and Dewbs were the first change bowlers with both struggling for line and length after their first overs. Dewbs taking a wicket in each of his last two overs (caught [Kim] and caught and bowled) finishing on 3-0-23-2 and Nadeem finishing on 3-0-30-0.

During this spell Dewbs was also involved in a run out, despite his best efforts to avoid it. He was later heard to claim that it was the lack of Goughy’s height and not the accuracy of his throw which had almost lead to run out being squandered. I believe Goughy was heard to utter a phrase containing the words “pot”, “kettle” and “black” ...... and of course "c*nt"

77 for 7 off 12

The final two bowlers were Kim and Manish. Kim taking a wicket in his first over (bowled) with Manish removing their last batsmen in his second (well caught in fading light by Shagger at 3rd man / deep Gully). The final pairing finishing of 2-0-9-1 and 1.3-0-13-1 respectively.

97 all out off 15.3 overs

A very close game played in a good spirit (with the exception of one contested decision) with revenge gained for the earlier defeat in the season.
