Foote’s 5-for In Vain
On a pleasant August summer evening SW Echo played host to
the Casz at Blackwier for the return fixture of what was a
rather one sided affair some two weeks hitherto.
Having lost the toss (again) the skipper (of the opposition)
decided to bat and so Furnham Jnr & Fitzy opened proceedings
with excellent spells offering meagre pickings for the batsmen;
AF: 3-0-13-0 & SF: 3-0-11-0
Replacing Andy at the Taff end, allowing him to study the
art of joggers nipple from nearer the boundary, Will plugged
away gallantly and came back strongly in his final over to
take the second wicket of the game, batsman #2 for 30 caught
JF [mid on?] ( 50 for 2 ) and with Dave again bowling well
against the Echo with his box of tricks at the other end the
pressure paid off with an excellent run out by Matt shying
at the batsmen’s end to remove the opener for 18 ( 47
for 1 ); WG 3-0-23-1 & DT 3-0-7-0
The final six overs were shared by Muff and Paul, with Muff
taking the spoils [and the match fez] with a personal casuals
best performance. From the Taff end Muff took his first wicket,
in his first over, removing batsman #4 for 2 caught Easy (
55 for 3 ) his second coming in his second over bowling #5
for 3 ( 63 for 4 ) and his third in the same over #6 for 0
stumped superbly by Simon ( 75 for 5 ) [now this doesn’t
make sense at this point as Muff only went for 3 in that over
– but that’s what was in the book !].
Not to be outdone Paul took two wickets in the next over
with batsman #3 for 18 ( 75 for 6 ) his first victim caught
Rich [deep mid on] and no help required with the next wicket
as #7 was bowled for 2 ( 78 for 7 ). Muff stretching his wicket
haul for the season to 22 with 2 more wickets in his final
over; his fourth of the match removing #8 for 2 ( 79 for 8
) caught Jonny F and his 5-for ball taking out #10 for 0 LBW
( 79 for 9 ) - there was also time for a chance behind for
a 6-for but a difficult opportunity left Muff with a more
than ample 5.
Andy F not wanting to miss out took the last wicket with
another excellently taken run out shy removing #11 for 0 (
82 all out )
82 all out

Now if you thought that was a rather dramatic collapse as
the saying goes you ain’t seen (heard) nothing yet !
The opening partnership of JF & Easy seemed to be cruising
at 54 for 0 off 12 overs before JF departed caught for a solid
35 which included some fine and deft shots, Easy soon following
in the same fashion for a dependable 17 ( 57 for 2 ).
CD was in at #3 with Simon at #4, Simon was caught for 2
( 61 for 3 ) before Rich fell to the same dismissal from #5
for a duck ( 61 for 4 ).
Will replacing me at #6 soon followed me back to the tree
after being caught for 1 ( 62 for 5 ) and CD coming in soon
after bowled for 2 ( 62 for 6 ).
#7 Andy F & #8 Paul were unable to stem the collapse
having to go for their shots with the overs fast disappearing
and with AF bowled for 0 ( 63 for 7 ) and Paul run out for
2 (67 For 8 ) #9 Fitzy and #10 Muff de Fez were summoned to
the crease.
With no time left and over 15 required for victory Muff was
out ( run out ) for 3 ( 70 for 9 ) leaving Dave to come in
at #11
Fitzy finishing on 2 not out and Dave 1 not out
72 for 9 off 18 overs
